Fujitsu Recalls Notebook Computer Battery Packs Due to Fire Hazard

Fujitsu America Inc. is recalling specific lithium-ion battery packs sold or provided as replacements for certain Fujitsu notebook computers, including the Celsius H720 and LIFEBOOK E752, P701, P702, P770, P771, P772, S752, S762, and T580 models. The recall involves approximately 300 units sold in the United States and about 5 units sold in Canada. The affected battery packs are black, measure about 8 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 0.8 inches high, and feature model number CP556150-1 (all serial numbers) or model number CP556150-2 (serial numbers Z120102 through Z120512). These packs were sold online at www.shopfujitsu.com and other web retailers from August 2012 through July 2015 for approximately $150.

The battery packs can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Fujitsu has received three reports of the battery packs catching fire, including two in Japan and one in China. These incidents caused fire damage to rugs, bedding, a desk, and other furniture. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately turn off their Fujitsu notebook computer and remove the battery pack. They should then contact Fujitsu at 800-838-5487 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.fujitsu.com/us and click on "Important Announcement: Voluntary Battery Recall and Replacement" to obtain a free replacement battery pack. Consumers can continue to use their notebook computers without the battery pack by plugging in the AC adapter and power cord.
