What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (knife) where injury has been reported (six lacerations, two requiring stitches), but no fatalities or severe injuries are noted, fitting the 'High' criteria for reported injuries without critical outcomes.
Plain-English summary
Gerber Legendary Blades is recalling approximately 150,000 Cohort folding knives in the United States and 11,000 in Canada. The recall involves an open frame folding clip knife with a black or dark gray anodized aluminum handle. The hazard exists because the locking mechanism can fail to hold the blade in the open position, posing a laceration hazard.
Gerber has received six reports of laceration injuries associated with the product, two of which required stitches. The affected knives were sold at retailers including Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, and Home Depot, as well as online at www.gerbergear.com and other sporting goods stores from January 2013 through March 2015 for about $30. The recall applies to specific model numbers and knives with a date code ending in the letters "E" or "F".
Consumers should stop using the knife immediately and contact Gerber for a replacement. Gerber Legendary Blades can be reached toll-free at (877) 314-9130 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or online at www.gerbergear.com under Product Notifications.
