Sony Recalls VAIO Flip PC Laptops Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

The recall is due to a hazard where the computers' lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Sony is aware of four incidents in Asia where computers overheated, resulting in units smoking, catching fire, and melting. No injuries have been reported.
The laptops were sold at Sony retail stores nationwide and online at www.store.sony.com from February 2014 to April 2014 for about $800. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled computers, shut them down, and unplug them. They should contact Sony toll-free at (866) 702-7669 or online for instructions on how to arrange for a free inspection and a free repair or full refund.
