3T Design Ltd. is recalling 2012 and 2013 Cervélo P5 bicycles equipped with 3T Aduro aero handlebars. The recall involves approximately 1,300 units in the United States and 225 units in Canada. The bicycles were sold at Cervélo retailers nationwide from May 2012 to August 2013 for between $7,000 and $10,000. The handlebars were manufactured between January 2012 and July 2012, with serial number date codes ranging from 1201 to 1207.
The forward extension mounts on the recalled handlebars can detach from the base bar while riding. This failure can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle, posing a risk of injury. 3T Design has received 28 reports of incidents related to this defect, including one report of a broken collar bone and four reports of abrasions.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact 3T Design to have the handlebars replaced free of charge with a modified set of Aduro aero handlebars. Consumers who purchased the optional ultra-low mount can receive a full refund for that component and a free modified Aduro aero base bar, or a replacement with 3T Mistral aero handlebars.
