Fox Factory Recalls Evolution Mountain Bike Suspension Forks Due to Fall Hazard
Fox Factory is recalling 2013 Evolution mountain bike suspension forks because the damper cylinder can separate, causing the front wheel to detach and posing a fall hazard.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fall hazard due to wheel detachment) where injury has been reported (shoulder injuries in Italy), but no deaths or serious injuries are reported in the US, fitting the 'High' criteria for risk-of-harm products with reported injury but not meeting 'Severe' or 'Critical' thresholds.
Plain-English summary
Fox Factory, of Watsonville, Calif., is recalling approximately 11,250 Evolution 2013 Mountain Bike Suspension Forks in the United States and 1,250 in Canada. The recalled forks are model year 2013, 32 and 34 Evolution Series with 120mm to 160mm of travel. The hazard is that the suspension fork's damper cylinder/piston can separate and cause the front wheel to detach, posing a fall hazard. Fox received one report of an incident resulting in shoulder injuries in Italy.
The forks were sold as original equipment on 2013 model year mountain bikes from brands including BMC, Cannondale, Commencal, Diamondback, GT, Kona, Lapierre, Norco, Orbea, Raleigh, Rocky Mountain, Santa Cruz, Scott, Specialized, and Trek. A small quantity was also sold as aftermarket accessories. The products were sold at bicycle retailers nationwide between August 2012 and October 2013. Bicycles with the original equipment were priced from about $2,000 to $4,400, while aftermarket forks were sold for about $600 to $650.
