Linear is recalling about 48,000 Personal Emergency Reporting System transmitters because battery clips can corrode, causing the devices to fail without warning.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (emergency safety device) where the device may fail to operate, but no injuries have been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Linear LLC is recalling about 48,000 Personal Emergency Reporting System (PERS) transmitters. The affected models are DXS-LRC, DXS-LRC-LA, DXS-LRP, and DXS-LRW, which were manufactured from June 2013 to July 2013. These transmitters are components of PERS products that allow users to push a button to summon assistance. The model and date codes appear on the back of the transmitter; affected units have date codes 1306, 1307, or 1329.

The recall is being issued because the battery clips in the transmitters can corrode. This corrosion can cause the transmitters to operate intermittently or not at all, without generating a warning. Linear received one report of a transmitter that failed to operate. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled transmitters were sold nationwide through independent PERS distributors and dealers from June 2013 through August 2013 for about $45. Consumers should immediately contact Linear to receive a free replacement transmitter. They can reach Linear toll-free at (855) 554-2384 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at www.linear-pers.com by clicking on Recalls.
