Plain-English summary
Kubota Manufacturing of America Corporation is recalling approximately 970 Kubota RTV500 off-road utility vehicles. The recalled vehicles are 4x4 utility vehicles with side-by-side seating for two people, a small cargo bed, and an optional cab. They are gasoline-powered and available in orange or camouflage. The model number "RTV500" is located on the doors, while "Kubota" and "4x4" are on the outside of the cargo bed.
The recall is being issued because carbon monoxide can accumulate in the vehicle cab when the engine is idling and the vehicle is not moving. This accumulation can result in carbon monoxide poisoning. The company has reported two instances of headaches attributed to carbon monoxide gas.
These vehicles were sold by authorized Kubota dealers nationwide from September 2008 through April 2012 for between $12,900 and $13,200. Consumers should contact their Kubota dealer to schedule a free repair. The repair includes the installation of a high-velocity exhaust tail pipe, the installation of special seals inside the cab, and a check of the ventilating system. For more information, consumers can contact Kubota toll-free at (800) 752-0290 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit the company's website.
