What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (sharp metal handle) where injury has been reported (one consumer received stitches), fitting the High severity criteria for products with reported injuries but no fatalities or severe systemic harm.

Plain-English summary

Toys R Us is recalling about 12,650 Journey Girl Travel Trunks due to a laceration hazard. The trunks, which are used to carry 18-inch-tall toy dolls, feature a blue metal handle that can be sharp. The 21-inch tall curved top trunks are purple with a blue pattern and were sold with three clothes hangers and two pull-out drawers for storage. The trunks have UPC # 4897027965070 and model number 5F5F79E, which is printed on the bottom of the trunk next to the UPC code.

Toys R Us has received six reports of incidents involving the handle, including one report of a consumer who received stitches as a result of a laceration. The trunks were sold at Toys R Us stores nationwide and online at www.toysrus.com from October 2012 through February 2013 for about $30. The trunks were made in China.

Consumers should immediately stop using the travel trunk and put it out of reach of children. They should return the trunk to a Toys R Us store for a full refund or store credit.
