Plain-English summary
Shimano American Corporation is recalling approximately 6,600 disc brake calipers in the United States and 704 in Canada. The recall includes all Shimano BR-CX75 aftermarket disc brake calipers and BR-R515 disc brake calipers installed on road and cyclocross bicycles sold by other manufacturers, including BMC, Giant, Ibis, Raleigh, Shinola, Specialized, and Volagi. The calipers are embossed with "Shimano," "China," and the model number, and are available in black or silver finishes.
The recalled calipers can fail, which poses a collision hazard. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. The products were sold at bicycle specialty stores and dealers nationwide from February 2012 through May 2013. The BR-CX75 model was sold for about $75, while the BR-R515 model was included in the cost of the bicycles where installed.
Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles equipped with the recalled Shimano brakes.
