The affected models were sold at authorized Stile/Tern dealers nationwide from January 2012 to May 2013 for between $1,800 and $3,000. The 24-inch wheel Eclipse model was sold in silver/black, while the 20-inch wheel Verge models were sold in silver/black, orange/white, red/black, and yellow/grey color combinations.
The recall is due to a hazard where the bike's frame can crack at the hinge on the top tube, which poses a fall hazard. Stile Products has received two reports of incidents where the frame hinge cracked, resulting in minor scrapes and bruises. The bicycles have a 10-character alphanumeric serial number stamped on the bottom bracket shell that begins with AM1A or ranges from AM1102 through AM1207.
Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycle and contact Stile Products or take the bike to an authorized dealer. Consumers will receive a free frame and have it installed at no cost.
