Sportspower Recalls Children's Waterslides Due to Injury Hazard
Sportspower is recalling Liquid Motion waterslides sold at Menards because inadequate warning labels pose a risk of serious neck injuries.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where a serious injury (neck injury) has been reported, but no fatalities or FDA Class I classification are present.
Plain-English summary
Sportspower Ltd. is recalling approximately 1,500 Liquid Motion children's waterslides. These blue and yellow inflatable waterslides, which measure about 18 feet long by 9 feet high by 5 feet wide, were sold exclusively at Menards from April 2010 through July 2010 for about $300. The recalled units have item number INF-1375 and UPC 687064031340 on the packaging.
The recall is due to inadequate warning labels that fail to specify weight limits or warn consumers never to slide head first. This poses a risk of serious injuries, including neck injuries. Sportspower has received one report of a man who sustained a neck injury after sliding down the waterslide head first.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled waterslides and contact Sportspower to receive new labels. The new labels warn consumers not to use the waterslide if they are older than 13 years of age and/or weigh more than 100 lbs, and to never slide head first. Sportspower can be reached toll-free at (888) 965-0565 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, online at www.sportspowerltd.net, or by email at [email protected].
