HP Recalls Fax Machines Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

Hewlett-Packard is aware of seven reports of these fax machines overheating and catching fire, resulting in property damage. These incidents include one instance of significant property damage and one instance of a minor burn injury to a consumer's finger. Six of the incidents were reported in the U.S., and one was reported in Canada. The company sold about 928,000 units in the U.S. and 240,000 units in Canada and Mexico between November 2004 and December 2011 for between $90 and $120. Some of the recalled units were replacements for a previous recall involving HP fax model 1010 in June 2008.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fax machines and disconnect them from the electrical outlet. They should contact HP toll-free at (888) 654-9296 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's website at http://www.hp.com/go/faxrecall/US-en to arrange for a rebate on an authorized replacement HP fax machine or a partial rebate on certain HP ink jet printers.
