Plain-English summary
phil&teds USA Inc. is recalling approximately 54,000 metoo Clip-on Chairs due to fall and amputation hazards. The recalled chairs are infant/toddler seats with a nylon fabric seat and metal frame that clamp onto tables. These specific units lack black plastic spacers between the cross bar and the clamps, a feature present in non-recalled models. The missing or worn clamp pads allow the chairs to detach from various table surfaces, creating a risk of the child falling. Additionally, if the chair detaches, a child's fingers can be caught between the bar and the clamping mechanism, posing a risk of amputation. Inadequate user instructions also increase the likelihood of consumer misuse.
The company and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have received 19 reports of the chairs falling from table surfaces. Five of these reports involved injuries. Two reports described children's fingers being severely pinched, lacerated, crushed, or amputated. The other three injury reports involved bruising after a chair detached suddenly and a child struck the table or floor.
The chairs were sold in red, black, and navy fabric colors from May 2006 to May 2011 for between $40 and $50. They were distributed through Buy Buy Baby, Target, Toys R Us, philandteds.com, Amazon.com, other online retailers, and independent juvenile specialty stores. Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact phil&teds USA at (855) 652-9019 or visit www.philandteds.com/support to receive a free repair kit and revised user instructions. Consumers who previously received a repair kit with only rubber boots should also stop using the chair and contact the company for the new repair kit.
