Plain-English summary
Idea Nuova Inc. is recalling approximately 1.1 million children's folding chairs sold in the United States. The chairs are made of metal tubing with vinyl padded seats and backs and were sold as sets consisting of a table and two chairs. The specific designs included "Monkey Moods," "Rock n Roll," "Princess," "Sport," "Training Camp," "Rainbow Angel," Spiderman®, and Disney® Princess. The chairs were sold at discount department and toy stores nationwide from September 2004 through June 2005 for between $15 and $25 per set.
The recall is due to a defect in the chair's safety lock, which can fail and allow the chair to collapse or fold unexpectedly. This failure creates a hazard where children's fingers can become caught or entrapped in the hinge and slot areas, posing a risk of pinching or cuts. CPSC and Idea Nuova are aware of five incidents involving children, including two instances of finger tip amputation, one finger fracture with a laceration, and two incidents with no reported injuries.
Consumers should stop using these chairs immediately. To receive a free repair kit to replace the locking pin, consumers should contact Idea Nuova toll-free at 866-772-1666 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or by e-mail at [email protected].
