American Signature Inc. is recalling approximately 24,000 entertainment centers due to a fall hazard. The recalled units, which include models named "Arts and Crafts", "Vineyard Manor", "Lake Cottage", "Studio One", "West Indies", and "Plantation Cove", were sold in various colors and configurations between October 2002 and December 2009. These products were sold at Value City Furniture, Rooms Today, and American Signature Furniture stores for approximately $1,650, with individual shelves sold separately for about $70.
The hazard exists because the shelves on these entertainment centers can detach and fall onto consumers when the units are moved. American Signature has received four reports of the shelf above the television collapsing. These incidents resulted in two injuries, including a child struck on the fingers and an adult requiring stitches to the mouth, as well as two reports of minor property damage.
Consumers should not move the entertainment centers until they install the free repair kit provided by American Signature. If the unit must be moved before the repair kit is installed, consumers should remove the center shelf above the television first. Those who do not receive the repair kit should contact the store where the product was purchased.
