What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary
American Signature Inc. is recalling approximately 380 "Windsor" style dinette chairs. The chairs are made of black wood, measure 40 inches high by 21 inches wide, and feature 9 metal spindles across the rounded back. The recall is due to a safety hazard where the stretch bar, which connects to the chair's legs, can detach during normal use. This detachment can cause the user to fall and suffer injuries.
American Signature has received two reports of chairs collapsing. One of these reports involved a consumer who fell and bruised her legs. The affected chairs were sold at American Signature Home and Value City Furniture stores in the Midwest and South during April 2004 for about $70 a pair.
Consumers should contact the store where the chairs were purchased to arrange for a pickup of the original chair in exchange for a replacement chair. For more information, consumers can contact the store manager of their local American Signature or Value City Furniture store.
