Fisher-Price Recalls High Chairs Due to Laceration Hazard from Storage Pegs
Fisher-Price is recalling Healthy Care, Easy Clean, and Close to Me high chairs because storage pegs on the rear legs can cause lacerations and injuries to children.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (laceration hazard) with reported injuries (stitches and tooth injury) but no reported deaths or serious injuries requiring hospitalization, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for injury reports without fatalities.
Plain-English summary
Fisher-Price is recalling approximately 950,000 Healthy Care, Easy Clean, and Close to Me high chairs in the United States and 125,000 in Canada. The recall involves high chairs with pegs on the back legs intended for tray storage. The affected models have a folding frame for storage and a three-position reclining seat. All Easy Clean and Close To Me High Chairs are included in this recall. Only Healthy Care High Chairs manufactured before December 2006 are included; consumers can identify these by checking if the fourth digit in the date code on the back of the seat is 6 or less.
The recall is due to a laceration hazard. Children can fall on or against the pegs on the rear legs of the high chair, resulting in injuries or lacerations. CPSC and Fisher-Price are aware of 14 reports of incidents, including seven reports of children requiring stitches and one tooth injury.
These high chairs were sold at mass merchandise retail stores nationwide from September 2001 through September 2010 for between about $70 and $115. Consumers should stop using the high chair immediately and contact Fisher-Price at (800) 432-5437 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.service.mattel.com for instructions and a free repair kit.
