Lakeshore Learning Materials of Carson, Calif., is recalling approximately 18,500 wooden magnetic maze boards. The affected products include the "Who's Hiding in the Garden?" and "Who's Hiding in the Ocean?" boards, as well as the Magnetic Counting Maze, Magnetic Alphabet Board, and My Community Magnetic Board. These boards feature a clear plastic sheet covering small pieces inside a maze and a plastic wand with a magnet in the tip used to move the items.

The recall is due to a hazard where the plastic wand can separate, exposing the magnet. This poses a choking hazard to children. Additionally, if a child swallows more than one detached magnet, the magnets can attract each other inside the body, causing intestinal perforations or blockages that can be fatal. Lakeshore has received ten reports of wands separating and magnets detaching, but no injuries have been reported.

The boards were sold at Lakeshore Learning Materials stores nationwide, through its catalogs, and online at www.lakeshorelearning.com from January 2009 through May 2010. They were sold singly or in sets for between $30 and $40. Consumers should immediately take the toys away from children and contact Lakeshore Learning Materials at (800) 428-4414 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit the company's website to receive a free replacement product.
