Family Dollar Recalls Magnetic Dart Boards Due to Swallowing Hazard

Family Dollar is recalling magnetic dart boards because small magnets can detach and be swallowed by children, posing risks of intestinal blockage or perforation.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (swallowing magnets) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Family Dollar is recalling approximately 250,000 FUN 'N SAFE Magnetic Dart Boards. The recall was initiated because the small magnets at the ends of the darts can detach. If young children find and swallow these magnets, they can be aspirated or cause intestinal perforations and blockages, which can be fatal.

The recalled dart boards are about 15 inches wide with a black, white, green, and red bulls eye checkered design. They were sold with six 4-inch-long magnetic darts that adhere to the board. The boards were sold at Family Dollar stores nationwide from January 2001 through January 2008 for about $5. The product was made in China.

No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall. Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and return the board and all of the darts to a Family Dollar store for a refund. For additional information, consumers can contact Family Dollar at (800) 547-0359 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.familydollar.com.
