Lennox Recalls Vent-Free Gas Logs and Fireplaces Due to Gas Leak Risk

Lennox Hearth Products is recalling about 5,700 vent-free gas log sets and fireplaces because the burners may fail to ignite, allowing gas to escape and posing a fire or explosion hazard.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire/explosion hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Lennox Hearth Products is recalling approximately 5,700 units of Superior VFGL Vent-Free Gas Log Sets and VF Vent-Free Fireplaces. The affected models include VFGL18, VFGL24, and VFGL28 log sets, as well as VF4000, VF5000, and VF6000 fireplaces. These products were sold at various fireplace and HVAC retailers and installers from March 2008 through December 2009.

The recall is due to a hazard where the front burners of the vent-free gas log set fireplace inserts and vent-free fireplaces can fail to ignite. This failure allows gas to escape, posing a fire or explosion hazard to consumers. Lennox received two reports from installers regarding log sets failing to light, but no injuries were reported.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled log sets and fireplaces. They should contact Lennox Hearth Products at (800) 826-8546 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the company's website to arrange for a free inspection and repair.
