The recall is being issued because internal electrical components in the heat pumps can fail, allowing the units to overheat. This malfunction poses a fire hazard. The company has received two reports of overheating, both in Canada. One report described a small hole in the heat pump motor due to melting, and the other reported that the fan blade and motor caught fire. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers should immediately contact their installing servicer, dealer, or contractor to arrange for a free replacement of the outdoor unit. While waiting for the replacement, consumers should monitor the heat pumps while they are operating and keep foliage and other flammable items at least 24 inches away from the units. Lennox is contacting known independent dealers directly, who will then contact consumers to arrange for the removal of the recalled units and the installation of replacements.
