These shades, style number 12810A, were sold exclusively by Hanover Direct/Domestications via the internet and catalog sales nationwide from January 2004 through December 2008 for between $20 and $40. The shades are available in eight colors and feature head rails measuring 23, 27, 31, 35, 39, 43, or 48 inches. Affected units have a sticker on the head rail with the letters "WS" and "style 12810A" printed on the packaging box.
The recall was prompted by a report of a near-strangulation incident in March 2008 involving a 2-year-old boy in Delaware who became entangled in the inner cords of the shade. The hazard exists because children can place their necks between the exposed inner cord and the fabric or pull the cord out and wrap it around their necks. No permanent injuries were sustained in the reported incident.
