Polaris Snowmobile Heaters Recalled Due to Electric Shock Hazard

Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling model year 2009 Polaris IQ WIDETRAK snowmobiles equipped with engine block or battery heaters, as well as standalone Polaris accessory engine block and battery heaters. The recall involves approximately 650 units. The model number S09PU7ES is printed on the right side of the tunnel below the seat of the affected snowmobiles.
The insulation on the electrical cords for the engine and battery heaters can fail during cold temperatures, creating an electric shock hazard for consumers. Polaris has not reported any injuries or illnesses associated with this defect.
The affected snowmobiles were sold through Polaris dealers nationwide from April 2008 through February 2009 for approximately $8,400. The heaters were sold from January 2008 through January 2009 for between $70 and $80. Consumers should immediately stop using the engine block or battery heaters and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair. Polaris has also notified registered consumers directly.
