Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling select model year 2004 and 2005 Polaris snowmobiles. The recall involves approximately 14,000 units sold nationwide by Polaris dealers between July 1, 2003, and May 1, 2005, for prices ranging from $4,099 to $9,999.

The fuel tank filler neck on these snowmobiles may develop a crack at the base where it meets the fuel tank assembly. This defect can cause the neck to separate from the tank, allowing fuel to escape and creating a potential fire hazard. Polaris has received nine reports of the filler neck cracking, but no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should contact their Polaris snowmobile dealer to schedule a free repair for the installation of a fuel neck reinforcement kit. If a dealer finds the filler neck is already cracked, they are instructed to replace the complete fuel tank assembly. Affected consumers have been notified directly by Polaris.
