Battery-Biz Inc. is recalling Duracell 130W Combo AC/DC power adapters used with notebook computers. The recall involves model numbers EA10900, AC-6501, and DRUM130 with date codes 0804 and 0805. These black adapters have "DURACELL UNIVERSAL POWER ADAPTER" printed on the front, with model and date codes located on the rating label on the back. The adapters were manufactured in China and sold at www.dell.com and www.duracelldirect.com from February 2008 through March 2008 for between $80 and $120. Approximately 1,300 units were distributed.
The adapters can fail and overheat, posing a burn hazard to consumers. Battery-Biz has received five reports of power adapters overheating, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power adapter and contact Battery-Biz to return it and obtain a free replacement. The company has sent a direct notice to consumers with the recalled adapters.
