The recall involves green spouts used with these containers that have manufacture date codes etched on the side ranging from 04/17/2009 through 04/19/2009. The affected containers have item numbers 81005 (1-gallon) and 81010 (2-gallon) printed on their labels. Spouts manufactured outside these dates or with number sequences ending in zero are not included in the recall.

The hazard exists because the spout's plunger cap can dislodge, which opens the seal of the fuel container and allows gasoline vapors to escape. This condition could cause liquid gasoline to spill from the top of the container during use, resulting in a fire hazard. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

The affected fuel containers were sold at home improvement, mass merchandisers, automotive, and various retailers nationwide from June 2009 through July 2009 for between $6 and $10. Consumers should immediately empty their gasoline containers and contact Blitz for a free replacement spout delivery system. The containers should not be used until the replacement spout is installed.
