Scepter Gas and Oil Fuel Containers Recalled for Flash Fire and Child Injury Risk

Scepter B62 fuel containers sold on Amazon lack required flame mitigation devices and have non-child-resistant spouts, posing risks of flash fire, burns, and child poisoning. Consumers should stop using them immediately.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recalled containers violate mandatory federal safety standards and pose serious risks of flash fire and child poisoning, meeting the criterion for high-risk products. However, the score is limited to 3 because no injuries or illnesses have been reported, per the rubric guidance that products with unreported hazards score at most 3.

Plain-English summary

This recall involves about 840 Scepter B62 gas and oil combination fuel containers. The containers are red with black caps and yellow spouts on each end, with dual chambers: 6-liter gas capacity on one side and 2.5-liter oil capacity on the other.

The containers violate mandatory safety standards under the Portable Fuel Container Safety Act because they lack flame mitigation devices required to prevent flash fires. Additionally, they violate the Children's Gasoline Burn Prevention Act because the spout closures are not child-resistant, creating a risk of burns and poisoning to children. The containers were sold on Amazon from September 2024 through July 2025 for approximately $40.

No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the fuel containers, place them out of reach of children, and contact Pro Recycle for a free return and full refund. Pro Recycle can be reached at 514-887-7309 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by email at [email protected].
