Plain-English summary
Wolf Steel USA is recalling about 1,200 Napoleon propane GDI44 gas fireplace inserts. The recall was initiated due to a laceration hazard caused by the potential for the insert's glass cover to break. This breakage can occur if propane gas builds up and causes a delayed ignition. The affected model number is GDI44, which is located on the front cover of the operating instructions or on the rating label behind the right side panel. The glass size is 36 inches wide and 22 inches high. Napoleon natural gas GDI44 inserts are not affected by this recall.
The inserts were sold at authorized Napoleon fireplace hearth dealers nationwide from July 2002 through September 2008 for about $2,000. Wolf Steel has received one report of a consumer who suffered minor lacerations when the glass cover shattered.
Consumers should immediately stop using the fireplace and contact Wolf Steel to receive a free repair kit.
