Wolf Steel Recalls Napoleon Propane Gas Fireplaces Due to Laceration Hazard

Wolf Steel Ltd. is recalling approximately 600 Napoleon GD3200-P and GD3200B-P propane gas fireplaces sold in the United States. The recall also covers about 2,400 units sold in Canada. These fireplaces were sold at Hearth Fireplace specialty stores nationwide from August 1992 through May 2001 for approximately $1,500.
The recalled fireplaces are black, approximately 33 inches tall and 31.25 inches wide, with gold accent designs on the top and bottom. The model number is located in the center of the rating label, which is found on the base of the fireplace behind the lower louvered access door. The pressure from the ignition of the propane gas can cause the glass front to break, posing a laceration hazard. Wolf Steel has received one incident report from Canada where the glass shattered, resulting in cuts to the face and neck that required medical attention. No incidents have been reported in the U.S.
Consumers should stop using the recalled fireplaces immediately. They should contact their local Napoleon Fireplace Hearth Dealer to arrange a service call for a free upgrade kit installation. The upgrade kit must be installed by a qualified gas appliance technician.
