The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and The Timberland Company are recalling about 193,000 pairs of Timberland PRO Direct Attach Steel Toe Boots. The recall involves model numbers 26002, 65016, 26038, and 38021. These boots were sold at shoe stores and other independent retailers nationwide from September 2005 through September 2007 for between $90 and $115. The boots were manufactured in the Dominican Republic.
The boots could fail to provide the intended protection against compression and impact, posing the risk of a foot injury to consumers. No injuries have been reported; the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. Direct Attach Steel Toe boots made in China are not subject to this recall.
Consumers should stop wearing the recalled boots immediately and contact The Timberland Company to receive a free replacement pair of boots. The model number is printed on a green loop tag on the inside of the boot, just below the size. The boots have a four-digit date code ending in 35 and beginning with the numbers 25 through 45 (e.g., 2535, 2635, 4535), which can also be found on the loop tag below the model number.
