Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and The Timberland Company are recalling specific children's Timberland 6" Classic Scuffproof boots. The recall involves wheat-colored leather boots sold in toddler size 4 through junior size 7. The hazard is that the logo stamped onto the insoles contains excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard.
Approximately 4,300 units were sold at shoe stores and specialty retailers nationwide from June 2009 through October 2009 for between $50 and $70. The boots were manufactured in Thailand. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the use of these boots.
Consumers should immediately take the recalled boots away from children. To receive free replacement insoles, consumers should contact Timberland at (800) 445-5545 between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.timberland.com. The model and manufacturer date code numbers are printed below the size on a white tag inside the boots.
