Battat Inc. is recalling approximately 7,000 units of the Magnabild Magnetic Building System sets, specifically the 108-piece (item number BB1439H) and 68-piece (item number BAT-34) versions. These products were sold at various retailers nationwide and online from July 2005 through February 2008 for between $20 and $35. The sets contain plastic building pieces with small magnets that can fall out. The 108-piece set includes 60 rods with magnets and 48 metal balls, while the 68-piece set includes 44 rods with magnets and 24 metal balls. The products are designed for children older than three years.

The recall is issued because the small magnets inside the building pieces can detach. If young children swallow or aspirate these magnets, serious health risks arise. If more than one magnet is swallowed, they can attract each other through the intestinal wall, causing perforations or blockages that can be fatal. CPSC and Battat have received 16 reports of magnets coming out of the building pieces, but no injuries have been reported.
