Geometix International LLC is recalling approximately 40,000 sets of MagneBlocks™ Magnetic Construction Toys. The recall was initiated because tiny magnets inside the plastic building pieces can fall out. If young children swallow these magnets, they can be aspirated or cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.

The recalled sets contain six or more plastic building pieces and six or more 1/2-inch diameter steel balls, with some sets including steel rods. The products were sold from January 2004 through November 2006 in discount department and toy stores, web sites, and other toy and arts and crafts stores nationwide for between $20 and $120. The firm is aware of one incident where a magnet became loose, but no injuries have been reported.

CPSC recommends that children under 6 years of age not play with toys containing magnets. Consumers should immediately remove any block from which a magnet has fallen and send it to Geometix International for a free replacement block.
