Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries Inc. is recalling about 8,800 Model Year 2006 Hawkeye 2x4 and Hawkeye 4x4 All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The recall covers specific units produced prior to January 23, 2006, including all serial number ranges for model numbers A06LB27AA (Hawkeye 2x4) and A06LD27AA/AB/AC (Hawkeye 4x4). These ATVs were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from August 2005 through April 2007 for between $3,900 and $4,700.
The steering posts on these vehicles can break in the area where the handlebar attaches to the steering post. This failure can result in a loss of steering control, leading to a crash and potential serious injury to the operator. Polaris has received three reports of steering post failure, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair. Polaris is contacting registered consumers directly. To verify if a specific ATV is included in the recall, consumers can contact a Polaris dealer or Polaris directly at (800) 765-2747 between 8 a.m. and midnight ET everyday, or visit www.polarisindustries.com. The serial number identification decal is located under the right-hand front fender and stamped on the lower portion of the frame, behind the left front wheel.
