FLOR Recalls Heartfelt Carpet Tiles Due to Embedded Needle Puncture Hazard

FLOR is recalling Heartfelt Carpet Tiles because embedded needles pose a puncture wound hazard. Three consumers reported minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (puncture hazard) where minor injuries have been reported but no serious injuries or hospitalizations occurred, fitting the High severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

FLOR Inc. is recalling approximately 24,000 Heartfelt Carpet Tiles due to a puncture hazard. The tiles are made from a blend of wool and Kenaf, measure 20 inches by 20 inches, and are available in beige, gray, and light gray. Each tile has "Made in USA" embossed on the bottom. The recall is necessary because pin-like needles can be embedded in the carpet tiles, posing a risk of puncture wounds to consumers.

FLOR has received three reports from consumers who received a puncture, scratch, or small cut from coming into contact with needles in the tiles. None of these injuries required outside medical attention. The affected tiles were sold nationwide from January 2006 through December 2006 for about $12 per tile. They were available through FLOR's website, home décor boutiques, and the company's catalog.

Consumers who purchased the affected tiles online or through the catalog are being directly notified by the company. Consumers can receive a full refund when the tiles are returned or free replacement tiles of equal value. For more information, consumers can contact FLOR at (866) 281-3567 between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.florcatalog.com.
