What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of serious injury or death due to fork separation, but no injuries have been reported, which aligns with the rubric for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Universal Engineering is recalling approximately 48 Radius Triple Clamps sold as an upgrade for certain make and models of motocross motorcycles. The clamps are black, display the Universal logo on each end, and have the name "UNIVERSAL" on one side. They were sold under part numbers 1025-40-0618 and 1025-40-0678.
The recall is due to a hazard where the clamps can crack during operation. This cracking poses a risk that the motorcycle's fork could separate, which could result in serious injury or death to the rider. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The clamps were sold by off-road motorcycle dealers and distributors from July 2006 through February 2007 for about $180. Consumers who have installed the clamp should not operate their motorcycle until the clamp has been removed and replaced with a factory OEM clamp. Universal Engineering is providing a full refund for the cost of the clamps and will notify identified purchasers by mail. Consumers can also call Universal Engineering toll-free at (866) 500-2090 for more information.
