What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where serious injury is possible due to handlebar separation, but no injuries have been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Tucker Rocky Distributing is recalling approximately 12,000 Pro Taper Clamp Kits used with off-road motorcycles. The recall includes Upper Triple Clamp Kits, Complete Triple Clamp Kits, Handlebar Clamp Kits, and Replacement Bolt Kits. These aftermarket accessories were sold at motorcycle dealerships nationwide from October 2007 through March 2008, with prices ranging from $5 to $440.
The hazard exists because some bolts included in the kits, or sold separately, can break under extreme force such as a crash if installed incorrectly. This failure can cause the handlebars to separate, posing a risk of serious injury to the rider. There have been seven reports of bolts breaking, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop riding off-road motorcycles equipped with the recalled kits. They should contact Tucker Rocky Distributing at (866) 217-7750 or visit www.protaper.com to obtain free replacement bolts.
