Plain-English summary
Fisher-Price Inc. is recalling approximately 8,900 Big Big World 6-in-1 Bongo Band toys. The recall is due to surface paints on the toys containing excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal law prohibiting lead paint on children's toys. The recalled toys feature two bongos with yellow and green plastic drum bases; one has a blue drum surface, and the other has an orange drum surface printed with "It's a Big, Big World." The toys were sold with animal-shaped accessories, including a monkey, bird, tambourine, and drum stick.
The toys were sold at retail stores nationwide from July 2007 through August 2007 for about $20. To identify the recalled product, look for product number K9343 inside the orange drum and a date code between 139-7SH and 232-7SH printed on the drum's orange ring surface. Both the product number and date code must be present for the toy to be included in this recall.
No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Fisher-Price for instructions on returning the product to receive a free replacement toy. For additional information, consumers can contact Fisher-Price at (888) 496-8330 or visit www.mattel.com/safety.
