Clarion Corp. of America is expanding its recall of approximately 1,500 additional N.I.C.E. P200 Navigation and Entertainment Systems. This expansion follows an initial recall announced in December 2006. The devices are black, portable units with a 4-inch touch screen LCD monitor that attach to a vehicle's windshield. The recall includes any N.I.C.E. P200 unit in which the batteries were previously replaced.
The lithium-ion batteries in these units can melt or overheat, which poses burn and fire hazards to consumers. Clarion has received 15 reports of units melting or overheating, but no injuries have been reported. The affected units were sold at car audio and mobile electronics stores nationwide from May 2006 through August 2007 for a suggested retail price of $800.
