Plain-English summary
Genuine Innovations is recalling approximately 55,000 units of its Second Wind MTB and Wrench Force Two Shot combination tire inflator and hand pumps. The recall involves specific models with part numbers 2525, 2525-O, 3519, 84995, or 80383. These devices, which consist of a hand pump and a CO2 cartridge inflator, were sold at specialty retail stores nationwide and through bicycle or motorcycle/ATV catalogues and online stores from January 2004 through May 2007. The Second Wind MTB was also sold as part of the Genuine Innovations ATV Deluxe Tire Repair & Inflation Kit from July 2005 to January 2007.
The company is recalling the products because the inflators can shatter under pressure when inflating tires if there is a blockage in the tire valve. This hazard poses a risk of bruises, lacerations, and ringing in the ears to consumers. The firm has received 12 reports of the pumps exploding, resulting in six reported injuries, including lacerations, temporary ringing in the ear, and bruising.
Consumers should stop using the affected combination tire inflator and hand pumps immediately. They should contact Innovations In Cycling at (800) 340-1050 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. MT Monday through Thursday, or visit the company's website at www.genuineinnovations.com to obtain a free replacement pump head.
