The recall includes models ACD-10PRO, ACD-10 TRMS-PRO, ACD-14, and ACD-14TRMS, excluding those with "FX" or "PLUS" suffixes. These meters measure 0 to 600 volts AC/DC and 0 to 400 amps AC. The units are red and gray, measuring 7-1/2 inches long, 2-1/2 inches wide, and 1-1/4 inches thick.
The meters can fail to provide an appropriate voltage reading, which may lead operators to believe electrical power is off. This malfunction poses a risk of shock, electrocution, or thermal burns. Amprobe is aware of one report of a clamp meter displaying an incorrect voltage reading, but no injuries have been reported.
The affected meters were sold nationwide through industrial distributors, electrical wholesalers, and hardware stores from January 2002 through December 2006 for about $100.
