Extech is recalling approximately 1,700 digital clamp meters, including models EX650, EX655, MA160, MA61, and MA63. These electrical testing devices are green and orange and feature the "EXTECH" logo and model number on the front, with the serial number on the back. The recall includes units with serial numbers ranging from R15XXXXXXX to R17XXXXXXX. The meters were manufactured in China by FLIR Commercial Systems Inc., owner of Extech.

The recall was issued because the meters can fail to provide accurate voltage readings. This malfunction may lead operators to falsely believe that electrical power is low or off, creating a hazard for electrocution. Extech has received two reports of clamp meters displaying incorrect voltage readings, but no injuries have been reported.

The affected meters were sold nationwide and online at retailers including Grainger, Platt Electric Supply, and Amazon.com from January 2016 through April 2017. The units were sold for between $110 and $230. Additionally, about 20 units were sold in Canada.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled digital clamp meters. They should contact Extech toll-free at 855-239-8324 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or online at www.extech.com to obtain a free replacement meter.
