What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a choking hazard for young children, which is a high-risk product hazard. Although no injuries have been reported, the potential for harm to infants and toddlers places this in the 'High' severity category per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Target is recalling approximately 460,000 plush baby rattles and photo frame ornaments sold in the "See. Spot. Save." department of Target stores nationwide from November 2006 through December 2006. The recalled items include pink bear and green moose styles, some with internal rattles or attached plastic rings, and photo frames held by the plush animals.
The recall is due to a choking hazard, as small parts such as pompoms, eyes, noses, and bows can break or detach from the items. Additionally, the plastic rings on the rattles can break and expose sharp points. Target has received 11 reports of parts detaching, including one report of a baby mouthing a detached part, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should stop using the recalled rattles and photo frames immediately. They can return the items to any Target store for a Target GiftCard worth the value of the returned item plus applicable sales tax. For more information, consumers can contact Target at (800) 440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.Target.com.
