Agio Recalls Outdoor Gas Fire Pits Due to Fire Hazard

Agio International is recalling approximately 22,000 outdoor gas fire pits due to a fire hazard. The recalled units are model numbers 98500 or 98500A, which were sold in various shapes and sizes with different table top and base styles. The model number is printed on the label located on the side of the sliding drawer holding the propane tank or on the back of the hinged door.

The hazard exists because the regulator hose for the propane cylinder can contact the burner during use. If this occurs, the hose can rupture, presenting a risk of fire outside of the unit. Agio has received eight reports of hoses rupturing, including three reports of fire. Two of these fires resulted in minor damage to decks. No injuries have been reported.

The fire pits were sold at Costco, BJ's, Home Depot Expo Design Center, Lowe's, other stores nationwide, and various online retailers from September 2005 through July 2006 for between $400 and $1,400. Consumers should stop using the fire pits immediately and contact Agio-USA at (800) 598-6532 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.agio-usa.com to receive a free repair. The repair consists of a tie that will keep the regulator hose from contacting the burner, along with instructions.
