M2Racer Recalls Bicycle Headsets Due to Potential Front Fork Failure

M2Racer LLC, of Burlingame, Calif., is recalling approximately 150 Conventional and Integrated Lite Headsets. These components mount to bicycle frames and fasten to the front fork assembly. The recall is due to a hazard where a protruding part of the headset can contact the steering tube of the front fork, scoring or scratching it. This damage can weaken the structural integrity of the front fork, potentially causing it to break and the handlebars to separate from the bicycle during use, resulting in a crash.

The headsets were sold at bicycle shops nationwide and through the M2Racer website from December 2004 through May 2006 for about $130. M2Racer has contacted all purchasers and received 21 reports of the headsets scoring the front fork assembly on consumers' bicycles. No fork failures or injuries have been reported.

Consumers should stop riding bicycles equipped with these headsets and inspect their front fork assembly for scoring damage. M2Racer will refund the purchase price of returned headsets.
