CPSC Recalls Bicycles and Components Due to Breakage and Injury Risk
CPSC and five manufacturers are recalling about 7,500 bicycles and 852 components because parts can break or fail, causing riders to lose control and suffer injuries.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported, specifically minor injuries from frame breakage, which aligns with the High severity criteria for products where injury has not yet been reported or is minor.
Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and five manufacturers are recalling approximately 7,500 bicycles and 852 bicycle components. The recall includes RANS Inc. long-wheelbase recumbent bicycles, Specialized Bicycles Hemi 12-inch children's bicycles, Cannondale Corp. "Carbon Lefty" suspension forks, Magura USA Gustav M hydraulic disc brakes, and Supergo Corp. carbon fiber-wrapped aluminum handlebars and "PAZZAZ" bar ends.
The products are being recalled because the front fork steering tube, bicycle frames, suspension forks, and handlebars can break or crack during use, and the hydraulic brakes could fail. These defects can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall, and suffer injuries. The carbon fiber wrap on the Supergo handlebars can also hide cracking of the aluminum underneath, and the bar ends can detach from the aluminum clamp. RANS Inc. has received eight reports of forks breaking, Specialized Bicycles has received two reports of bicycles breaking resulting in minor injuries, Cannondale has received six reports of forks breaking, and Supergo has received two reports of handlebars breaking and one report of a handlebar cracking. No other injuries have been reported.
Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately. Owners of Hemi bicycles should return them to a Specialized dealer for a refund. Owners of Cannondale bicycles should return them to a Cannondale retailer to have the fork rebuilt and upgraded at no charge. Owners of Magura brakes should contact a dealer for repair or a brake upgrade kit. Owners of Supergo handlebars and bar ends should stop using them to obtain a refund or a free replacement handlebar installed at Supergo stores.
