Plain-English summary
LandRoller Inc. is recalling approximately 1,400 pairs of "Terra 9" roller skates. The recall was initiated because the wheels on these skates can detach and the brakes can fail. Either of these mechanical failures can cause the skater to fall and suffer serious injury. The company has received nine reports of wheel separation, but no injuries have been reported.
The recalled skates were manufactured between July 2005 and December 2005 and sold at sporting goods stores nationwide and by web retailers from July 2005 through February 2006 for about $250. The "Terra 9" model features two oversized wheels on each skate angled inward to help users balance on uneven surfaces. Women's skates are purple and gray in sizes 6 through 11, while men's skates are blue and black in sizes 5 through 12. The date of manufacture can be determined by the serial number on a white sticker inside the right boot's plastic ankle cuff; serial numbers beginning with "L050" are included in the recall.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled LandRoller roller skates. Because the firm is no longer in business, a remedy is no longer available.
