The recall was initiated because the wheels of the scooter can break or become damaged, which can cause users to fall and suffer injuries. The affected scooters are non-motorized, two-wheeled models with a folding hinge and adjustable handlebar. They feature a purple platform with a bright pink Bratz logo. The specific units included in the recall are identified by Item No. 266563, have a date of manufacture prior to July 2004, and were manufactured by Jurong Dumar Bicycle, Inc. of China. This identification information is located either directly beneath the scooter platform or at the bottom of the scooter near the rear wheel.
The scooters were sold at toy and discount chain stores nationwide from September 2003 through November 2004 for about $30. MGA has received six reports of cracked wheels on the recalled scooters. All six incidents resulted in cuts, scrapes, and bruises. In one case, a 9-year-old suffered a broken arm.
