TechnoBrands Recalls Self-Extinguishing Rope Candles Due to Fire Hazard

TechnoBrands Inc. is recalling about 2,000 self-extinguishing rope candles because the clamp may fail to stop the flame, allowing the entire candle to ignite.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fire hazard where the product fails to extinguish as designed, posing a risk of harm, but no injuries or property damage have been reported.

Plain-English summary

TechnoBrands Inc. is recalling approximately 2,000 units of the "Self-extinguishing Rope Candle." The product is a 20-foot coiled beeswax candle with an antique copper finish that was sold online and through catalogs from November 2004 through February 2005 for $49.95. The candles were manufactured by Zhongshan Zhongnam Candle Manufacturer Co., Ltd. of China.

The recall was issued because the scissors-like clamp used to extinguish the candle does not always sever the wax close to the wick as intended. This failure can allow the flame to continue down into the coiled section of the candle, potentially igniting the entire product. TechnoBrands has received two reports of the candle continuing to burn past the intended extinguishing point, but there have been no reports of injury or property damage.

Consumers who purchased these candles should contact TechnoBrands Inc. at (866) 660-7150 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, to receive a full refund.
