Gardener's Supply Company is recalling approximately 2,000 Beeswax Rope Candles (SKU # 34-911) in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The product is a 21-foot coiled beeswax candle that sits on an antiqued copper-finish holder and features a metal clamp designed to self-extinguish the wick.
The recall is due to a fire hazard. The metal clamp does not always sever the wax close to the wick or enable the wick to self-extinguish. This failure can allow the flame to continue burning down into the coiled section of the candle, potentially igniting the entire candle and causing fire damage. Three incidents were reported where the candle continued to burn past the intended self-extinguishing point, resulting in property damage in two cases, though no injuries were reported.
The candles were sold at the Gardener's Supply retail store in Burlington, Vt., and through the Holiday 2004 Gardener's Supply Catalog from October 20 through November 12, 2004. Consumers should stop using the product immediately. For a remedy, customers can contact Gardener's Supply Co. at (800) 876-5520 or visit www.gardeners.com to receive a replacement candle with a new scissor-like attachment, store credit, or a full refund.
